Solitary goal paves way for Swieqi’s victory

Struggling Swieqi stunned KO finalists Vittoriosa Stars 1-0  in the only FXDD Premier Division match played yesterday evening at the Corradino Pavillion.

Vittoriosa, who had Steve Ferriggi missing,  tried to put pressure on their opponents’ defence but Swieqi’s keeper made a string of important saves to keep his side in contention.

Swieqi replied with some swift counter attacks with Vittoriosa’s keeper Chris Azzopardi being kept busy as well.

The Cottonera side had to succumb after Swieqi were awarded a penalty which was eventually converted to give the latter side the most important three points.

In the FXDD First Division match, Siggiewi returned to winning ways after seeing off Fgura 5-4.

After suffering an early goal, Siggiewi reacted bravely and made a great comeback to install a 3-1 advantage before half-time.

It was a balanced match with both sides attacking each others’ defences with Fgura succeeding to restore parity 4-4 before Siggiewi scored the most important goal.

A brace by Glen Gauci and James Borg together with a goal from Jean Mark Galea gave Siggiewi the final say on this match.
