Luxol humble Swieqi, Spartans maintain pressure

Luxol maintained the leadership of  the FMA Premier Division table after thumping Swieqi United 14-0 after another round of matches was played at the Corradino Pavillion.

Luxol dominated from the first whistle and it only took them only a short while  to break the deadlock. From there on, they dominated the proceedings to record the biggest win of the season.

Double strikes from Celino Alves, Florin Anton, George Frendo, Karl Saliba and William Barbosa together with Ibrahim Tarik, Dale Camilleri and two own-goals paved the way for Luxol’s eighth win of the season.

Hamrun Spartans kept the pressure on Luxol with a convincing 7-4 victory against neighbours Valletta.

The Citizens gave a mighty performance but on the day Hamrun proved to be stronger.

Valletta managed to break the deadlock early in the game through Xavier Saliba but two quickfire goals helped Hamrun turn the score before half-time.

It was another collective performance by the Spartans who had their newest acquisition, Raphael Felipe Ortiz de Oliveira in fine form as he netted a hat-trick.

Mohammed Elamari, Jovica Milijic, Rogerio dos Santos Filho and an own goal by Cedric Sciberras  were on the scoresheet as James Ciangura’s second-placed side provided an emphatic response to Luxol’s win the day before.

Denis di Maio hit the target three times to reduce the score for the Lilywhites.

It was the Spartans’ eighth win of the season as they continued their excellent recent form and provided further evidence they remain firmly in the title race with just one point separating them from Luxol.

Balzan kept some pressure on Luxol and Hamrun in the race for the Premier Division title with an 8-2 win over Gzira United.

Frane Despotovic scored a hat-trick while Marco Conti, Boycho Marev, Carl Azzopardi, Matthew Attard and Mark Zammit were also on the mark for the defending champions.

Alessio Restuccia scored a brace for Gzira but was later sent off after two yellow cards.

In a crucial basement clash, Mosta saw off Zebbug Rangers 9-3 to extend their advantage over their nearest relegation rivals.

This was a deserved victory for Mosta leaving Zebbug in serious relegation trouble.

Laszlo Hajossy was Mosta’s inspirational player as he scored a hat-trick while Gabor Balan, Matthew Borg, Francesco Ronsisvalle, Steve Ferriggi and Dylan Micallef completed the mission for their team.
