Goalkeeper Delyan Ivanov produced a string of superb saves to help his side Zurrieq overcome Qormi’s hurdle with a 4-1 scoreline.
Qormi were the better team in the first seven minutes producing lots of occasions and scoring through Andre Mamo. They continued to create a lot of chances but Zurrieq defended boldly their opponents. After 10 minutes, Zurrieq levelled matters with Joseph Lia. Before the end of the first half Garrett Magri made it 2-1 for Zurrieq.
In the second half, Qormi tried a reaction but they missed a lot of good chances. Keeper Delyan Ivanov saved the day for Zurrieq after producing some amazing saves to deny Qormi’s strikers. A brace by Tyron Borg sealed the issue for Zurrieq to register their second win of the season.
Balzan maintained their positive run after defeating Birzebbuga 12-4. They had Romanian duo Gabriel Dobre and Emil Raducu missing in their initial squad as they are engaged with their national team. The Southerners tried to absorb Balzan’s continuous attacks and created some good chances in the first half. They succeeded in levelling the score but after finding the net again, Balzan looked confident and there wasn’t any doubt on their fifth consecutive win.
Balzan’s goals were scored by Marc Areny Albert (hat-trick), three braces by Zejlko Anicic, Rennie Tanti and Nicola del Re and a goal by Christian Wismayer, Jovica Milijic and Giancarlo Sammut. A brace by captain Noel Tabone and a goal by Alejandro Asenjo Mexia reduced the arrears for Birzebbuga.
